Do you know what's in your barbecue sauce?  You will when you make homemade barbecue sauce with just 5 pantry-staple ingredients using this recipe for Honey BBQ Ribs!  The condensed French onion soup is the shortcut to a great sauce- just add some honey, ketchup and garlic for the perfect balance of savory and sweet.  Prep the sauce (it only takes 10 minutes) while the ribs are simmering- it's so easy!  The black pepper in these Honey BBQ Ribs recipe brings a little heat, but feel free to add a little hot sauce if you like your sauce spicy- that's the fun of making your own!

cost per recipe: $10.28

  • 4 pounds pork sparerib (about 1 rack)
  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed French Onion Soup
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • Tips

    • Serving Suggestion: Serve with grilled corn-on-the-cob and a tossed green salad. For dessert serve sliced cantaloupe.
  • Step 1

Place the ribs into an 8-quart saucepot and add water to cover.  Heat over medium-high heat to a boil.  Reduce the heat to low.  Cover and cook for 30 minutes or until the meat is tender.  Drain the ribs well in a colander.

  • Step 2

Heat the soup, ketchup, honey, garlic powder and black pepper in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil.  Reduce the heat to low and cook for 5 minutes.

  • Step 3

Pat the ribs dry and season with salt and pepper.  Lightly oil the grill rack and heat the grill to medium.  Grill the ribs for 20 minutes or until well glazed, turning and brushing often with the soup mixture.  Cut the ribs into serving-sized pieces.

  • Great in the crockpot, too.

I use Baby Back Ribs and add about 1/3 cup vinegar to the water when boiling ribs. Follow the rest of the directions for preparing. Place ribs and sauce in a crock pot: cook on LOW for 6-8 hours. It doesn't get any easier or better than this.

I did not like the sauce. It did not have the kick to it that I like my sauce to have.

The sauce is great. Works well on ribs. It works even better with chicken. I make this up ahead of time and keep it in the refrigerator just so I have to BBQ with. If you want to kick it up add a half a teaspoon of chili powder or tabasco sauce to it.
